A novel mixed-integer programming approach for the aircraft landing problem

Due to the upward trend in aviation industry, existing approaches for air traffic control need be improved achieve efficient schedules. This paper deals with aircraft landing problem, which consists of determining a time each within radar range an airport and allocating it runway. We propose exact solution approach that involves mixed-integer linear programming. The objective is hereby minimize sum weighted deviations from target times under consideration different safety, efficiency fairness constraints. Despite problem’s NP-hardness, our method exhibits low execution thanks modified modeling strategy provides near-optimal results. Numerical experiments prove large airports.
